A proposed state tax on delivery services appears unlikely of passing in this legislative session.
Senate President Donald E. Williams says the idea isn’t dead, but he doesn’t think it has “a tremendous chance” of passage.
Last week, the legislature’s tax-writing committee passed a bill that would apply a new, 6 percent tax to the delivery charges of all goods transported in Connecticut. The tax would include documents, products and groceries.
The money would be used to provide additional aid to cities and towns.
Senate Republicans say the Democrat proposal would hurt small businesses. They’re going to keep pushing for the repeal of the $250 annual business entity tax, charged to every business in the state.
