A drive-thru-only coffee shop is being proposed for redevelopment of an underutilized commercial property along Boston Road in Middletown, as a fast-growing national chain continues expanding in Connecticut.
The plan calls for a small-format location, at 733 Washington St. and 35 Boston Road, operated by 7Brew Coffee, which has been growing its footprint in the state with sites in Wallingford and Vernon. The brand operates more than 600 locations nationwide and focuses on high-volume, drive-thru service.
The proposal, submitted by applicant DTB Middletown LLC, includes construction of a roughly 510-square-foot prefabricated beverage building and a 250-square-foot detached refrigerated cooler. The site would also feature two drive-thru lanes, parking, lighting, landscaping and utility upgrades. The operation would not include indoor seating or on-site food preparation.
The project would replace an older residential use with a compact commercial redevelopment intended to align with surrounding properties in a mixed-use commercial zone, according to the application.
Middletown’s Planning and Zoning Commission is scheduled to hold a public hearing on the proposal April 8.
