Farmland preservation group hires outgoing senator

Wethersfield-based Working Lands Alliance said it has named Clark Chapin as project director.

Working Lands, a Connecticut project of American Farmland Trust, is dedicated to farmland preservation.

Chapin, a Republican, grew up on a dairy farm in Litchfield County and has served in the legislature for the past 16 years, including 12 years in the House. He was elected to the Senate in 2012. He is a ranking member on the Environment Committee.

Chapin intends to complete his current term, but is no running for reelection.
