A new weekly newspaper will launch Feb. 5 to cover the Farmington Valley, where four local papers recently folded.
The Valley Press is being started by publisher Stephen Friedman of Avon, who is the sole investor in Simsbury-based Valley Publishing Co., and his daughter, Melissa Marinan of Simsbury.
Marinan formerly was in advertising with Journal Register Co.’s Imprint Newspapers division, which discontinued the Avon Post, Farmington Post, Simsbury Post, and Tri-town Post.
The four delivered their final issues last week and closed after Journal Register failed to find a buyer for them.
Barbara Thomas of Farmington, former Imprint managing editor, is Valley Press editor. The Valley Press will be mailed free on Thursdays to households in Avon, Burlington, Canton Farmington and Simsbury.
