Farmington firm KBE Building Corp. has started structural demolition of Connecticut College’s Shain Library in New London in preparation for a $9 million renovation.
The project comprises of 41,000 square feet of renovation on the three-story library, plus 4,600 square feet of additions. The library also will be modernized for energy use, including mechanical and electrical upgrades.
KBE has completed more than 300 projects on the Connecticut College campus, part of the school’s asset reinvestment initiative. Other notable projects include the science center and fitness center, both earning accolades from the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design program.
In addition to the library, KBE currently serves as the construction manager of the college’s boiler replacement project.
