Farmington businessman joins Rell’s panel

Gov. M. Jodi Rell today announced she has appointed businessman Carlos Alvarez of Farmington to the Governor’s Small Business Advisory Council.

The council is a voice for the small business community in bringing their concerns, issues and interests to the governor’s office and the General Assembly.

Alvarez’s term concludes with the Governor’s term or until a successor has been appointed and has qualified, whichever is longer.

Alvarez is publisher and CEO of El Imparcial Newspaper and manager/CEO of Hartford-based First Option Realty, both based in Hartford.  He serves on the executive board of the Spanish American Merchants Association (SAMA) and chairs the state’s Latino Puerto Rican Affairs Commission.

“Carlos’s experience in managing his businesses will make him an invaluable member of this panel, and I thank him for his willingness to serve the State of Connecticut,” Rell said.  “I am confident that Carlos will help the council to ensure that Connecticut’s small businesses have appropriate access to services available through state agencies and organizations.”
