Farmington augmented-reality developer raises $8.1M

A Farmington-based company that’s developing augmented-reality technology to help teams of workers collaborate more efficiently said it’s raised $8.1 million.

Polarity said it will use the funding round, which was led by Atlanta-based venture capital firm TechOperators, to expand its product offerings and its engineering and sales teams.

Previously called Breach Intelligence, Polarity is led by CEO Paul Battista, a former U.S. intelligence officer. Polarity says it’s developed computer-vision algorithms to help IT workers, analysts, cybersecurity professionals and other knowledge workers keep track of data “beyond the capacity of human memory.”

According to Polarity, its technology uses on-screen overlays — not augmented-reality goggles — to display information in a way that enhances human memory and analytical capabilities.

The company claims customers ranging from 20 employees all the way up to Fortune 10 companies, as well as the U.S. government.

Other investors in the recent round included Shasta Ventures, Strategic Cyber Ventures and Gula Tech Adventures.

Polarity raised $3.5 million in a Series A round in 2017. The new funding round is considered a Series AA.

In connection with the latest round, Polarity said it’s added TechOperators general partner Tom Noonan to its board.

Noonan, the former chairman, president and CEO of Internet Security Systems, which IBM bought for $1.3 billion in 2006, said in a statement that Polarity’s technology is exciting.

“Legacy tools simply can’t keep up with the ever-evolving barrage of security threats and time-sensitive decisions faced everyday by organizations,” Noonan said. “The Polarity team has an optimal combination of real-world experience and an innovative approach to drive the adoption of augmented reality across the enterprise.”
