Relatives of a Connecticut woman who froze to death in a snowbank last year after getting out of Cromwell state Rep. James O’Rourke’s car are filing a lawsuit against the lawmaker.
The mother and sister of Carol Sinsigalli allege in the lawsuit served on O’Rourke that his recklessness and negligence contributed to her death in January 2009. They’re seeking undisclosed damages.
O’Rourke told police Sinsigalli jumped into his car in the parking lot of a Cromwell tavern, became belligerent and later jumped out in the snow. He told police he thought she was near her home when she got out.
State prosecutors declined to prosecute O’Rourke, citing insufficient evidence.
O’Rourke’s lawyer, John “Jake” Donovan, says there’s no merit to the lawsuit and he expects O’Rourke to be vindicated. (AP)
