Fairview Research in New Haven has expand its intellectual property information services with its acquisition of a Delaware patent search firm, The News Journal in Wilmington, Del., reports.
Terms of the purchase of IFI Patent Intelligence from Wolters Kluwer Pharma Solutions weren’t disclosed.
The company has been renamed IFI Claims Patent Services.
Fairview officials say the acquired company’s staff of about 16 won’t see any immediate impact.
“It sounds like a perfect fit to us right now,” said Darlene Slaughter, general manager of IFI — a long-ago offshoot of the DuPont Co. “They also have an emphasis on customer service, which has been one of our strengths since the beginning.”
The buyout also gives Fairview access to IFI’s proprietary methods of indexing and standardizing the thousands of U.S. patents in its database.
“They are an old and trusted brand, particularly in the chemical information field,” said Mike Baycroft, CEO at Fairview, who said the merger creates a dynamic that may enable both firms to expand their scope.
