In an effort to cut energy waste, Fairfield University installed new flat-screen television dashboards in the lobbies of its residential facilities to broadcast how much energy individual students use.
The dashboard will post the real-time electricity and heat usage for each student apartment by the hour, day, week and month. The information is available online as well.
In addition to sending out students’ energy usage, the dashboards track the production of the university’s combined heat and power generating plant, which provides electricity for most campus buildings.
The dashboards will help the university’s Department of Facilities Management track the success of retro-commission and eco-friendly upgrades.
Fairfield University wants to reduce its emissions 20 percent by 2020 and 85 percent by 2050.
