Fairfield U. offers online option to nursing post-masters degree

Fairfield University’s school of nursing is adding a fully online option to the hybrid version to its post-master’s Doctor of Nursing Practice program.

University officials said this initiative, offered through the Marion Peckham Egan School of Nursing and Health Studies, is designed to better meet the needs “of busy healthcare professionals who aspire to stay at the forefront in the field.” This includes those in teaching roles who will also enhance their technical skills and clinical expertise, or those advancing into leadership roles, school officials said.

Fairfield online post-masters DNP degree can be completed within 18 to 24 months, with flexible classes that allow students to balance full-time employment with academic pursuits.

Applications for fall 2024 enrollment are now open, and the school is hosting a virtual information session on March 21.

University officials said the field of nursing is rapidly growing “and with that, the need for nurse leaders in an ever-changing healthcare environment,” said Egan Assistant Professor of Nursing and DNP program director Dorothy Vittner.

In February, the school announced a $2.59 million grant for graduate nursing students that would provide financial support, develop curriculum and bolster nursing services in underserved communities.

In mid 2023, Fairfield debuted a new nursing-focused campus in Texas, while the Arizona College of Nursing announced it was eyeing a new Connecticut campus in East Hartford.
