Fairfield to open CNG fueling station

The Town of Fairfield will open a compressed natural gas fueling station on Friday, as part of a $29 million statewide project to install alternative fuel station throughout Connecticut.

The Fairfield CNG station was completed with $333,750 from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The project total was $637,448, and Fairfield will receive one CNG senior citizen bus and two hybrid electric sedans as part of the program.

“Congratulations to Fairfield on winning this federal grant and on having the foresight to invest in new energy technology that will reduce our dependence on foreign oil, save money, and create jobs,” said Congressman Jim Himes, D-CT, in a press release.

The Fairfield station was part of a larger project by the Connecticut Clean Cities Future Fuel Project using $29 million from ARRA and private funding to put alternative fuel stations throughout the state. Other projects under the program include stations in Windsor Locks, Bridgeport and Hartford.
