A Shelton-based developer’s plan to build 140 apartments on a former lumberyard property near downtown Fairfield is moving toward a public hearing.
The town’s Planning and Zoning Commission is scheduled Tuesday night to review the application and consider scheduling a future hearing.
Scinto Thorpe LLC, controlled by developer Robert Scinto, is proposing two three-story apartment buildings at 185 Thorpe St. The buildings would be constructed above a parking level on the 6.67-acre property.
The development, called The Dakota, would include 107 two-bedroom apartments, 30 one-bedroom units and three three-bedroom units. Seventeen apartments would be designated as affordable housing.
Plans also call for 277 parking spaces, a public coastal-access path and a stormwater-management system.
Scinto Thorpe acquired the property for $5 million in 2018. The site previously housed Fairfield Lumber Co., McClinch Equipment Corp. and United Rentals.
The property has been the subject of previous development proposals, including a 55-unit project approved in 2015 and a 148-unit plan approved in 2020.
