Fairfield broker launches online health insurance marketplace for colleges

Fairfield-based Benefits U announced Tuesday the launch of its new private individual health insurance marketplace for colleges and universities.

Benefits U has partnered with GoHealth to provide the service at no cost to colleges and universities throughout the country, according to a news release from Benefits U.

Colleges and universities often have a large number of part-time employees, adjunct faculty and students who are not eligible for health insurance through the institution, Timothy Tracy Jr., co-founder of Benefits U, said in the release.

“Through our partnership with GoHealth, we have created a solution that allows those individuals to be able to shop online for individual health insurance and receive expert advice from licensed advisors,” he said.

The GoHealth Benefits U Marketplace provides education and accessibility to a range of individual insurance options. It allows consumers to compare benefits from the nation’s top insurance carriers, apply for subsidies and enroll in an individual health insurance plan, the release said. GoHealth also provides free decision support tools and guidance from licensed insurance advisors to help connect insurance shoppers with the right plan.

Benefits U will be hosting free webinars over the next few months so colleges and universities can learn more about the health insurance marketplace.

Benefits U is the higher education consulting division of Gerard B. Tracy Associates Inc., an insurance brokerage and advisory firm specializing in providing employee benefits to the higher education marketplace. GoHealth is a Chicago-based company that powers GoHealthInsurance.com, a private health insurance marketplace.
