Fairfield biomedical manufacturer Competitive Technologies Inc. made money in the first quarter from strong sales of its pain-management devices — its first quarterly profit in nearly six years.
Competitive Tech earned $29,000, or zero cents a share, in the three months ended March 31. That compares to a net loss of $739,000, or 7 cents a share, incurred the comparable period ended April 30 a year ago.
The company said the last time it earned a quarterly profit was in the period ended July 31, 2005.
First-quarter sales were $1.9 million vs. $518,000 a year earlier.
Its Calmare devices are designed to provide relief for chronic pain sufferers by attaching electrodes to patients’ pain pathways.
