Cheshire drug maker Alexion Pharmaceuticals on Tuesday announced the appointment of Ann M. Veneman, a former agriculture secretary and UNICEF official, to its board of directors.
Veneman, an attorney, was executive director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) from May 2005 to April 2010. She was secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture from January 2001 to January 2005.
Veneman has practiced law in Washington, D.C. and California. She earned her bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California, Davis; a master’s degree in public policy from the University of California, Berkeley; and a law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of Law.
Alexion’s Soliris drug is marketed in most parts of the world to treat a rare anemic blood disorder.
