Patricia Meiser, the University of Hartford’s retired athletic director and administrator, is the new chair of the Connecticut Sports Advisory Board.
Meiser has been a board member since its 2012 creation as a division of the Connecticut Convention & Sports Bureau, a public-private promotions organization.
She replaces a pair of previous co-chairs: Tom Chiappetta, executive director of the Fairfield County Sports Commission; and Patrick Fisher, executive director of CT Sports Management Group. Fisher remains on the 49-member board, a spokeswoman said Thursday.
A former women’s basketball coach, Meiser retired from UHart last summer after heading the Hawks’ sports program for more than two decades.
Previously, Meiser spent a decade as UConn’s associate athletic director and senior women’s administrator, chairing the committee that urged the hiring of legendary women’s basketball coach Geno Auriemma.
The Manchester resident chaired the former Greater Hartford Sports Commission for nearly 20 years, and was chair for two years of the former Greater Hartford Convention & Sports Bureau.
Before UConn, Meiser was head women’s basketball coach at Penn State for 11 years.
