Walter White, former head of Hartford Financial Service Group’s independent broker/dealer unit, is the new chief executive of the life insurance unit of The Hartford’s major German stakeholder.
White takes over as president and CEO of Allianz Life Insurance Co. in Minneapolis, effective Jan. 1, the insurer said Wednesday.
White succeeds Gary C. Bhojwani, who becomes chairman of Allianz Life.
Allianz Life is a unit of German insurer Allianz SE, which invested $2.5 billion in The Hartford at the peak of the 2008 global financial crisis.
White joined Allianz Life in 2009 as chief administrative officer after running The Hartford’s Woodbury Financial Services broker/dealer unit as president.
Woodbury is the successor to former Fortis Financial, where White was employed when The Hartford acquired it in 2001.
White has a BA from Yale University and an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a Chartered Life Underwriter.
