Ex-Pratt officer Brantner lands at GKN

The mystery of David M. Brantner’s abrupt October departure as Pratt & Whitney Co.’s year-long commercial-engine chief is officially over, with GKN Aerospace’s confirmation that he is the British auto- and aeroparts maker’s new aerospace division president.

Brantner, 47, who spent more than two decades at Pratt and took over as commercial-engine president in June 2013, is now in charge of global oversight of GKN’s customer relations, including program performance and strategic product and technology deployment for sustained growth, GeoConnexion.com reports.

Previously unconfirmed news reports at the time of his departure had Brantner headed to GKN, where he reports to GKN CEO Kevin Cummings.

“His proven leadership capabilities will greatly enhance our drive to deliver the systems and technology our customers need,’’ Cummings said in a statement. “He is well known and highly respected throughout the industry and understands first-hand what is required for GKN to continue to improve its offerings to the global [original equipment manufacturers].”

Following Brantner’s exit, Pratt has named Gregory H. Gernhardt, 49, to assume the global task of selling Pratt’s PurePower geared turbofan engines to airframe builders.

Brantner could not be immediately reached Wednesday for comment.

GKN Aerospace, a unit of GKN PLC, did not immediately respond to HBJ Today’s email.
