Gov. Dannel P. Malloy on Thursday appointed a former Pfizer executive as a director of the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority.
West Hartford resident Michael Caron, former director of public affairs of global sites for pharmaceutical maker Pfizer, Inc., will replace Kevin DelGobbo, who retired as PURA director in May.
The three-member PURA board and its staff handles rate cases and other issues from the state’s utilities including Connecticut Light & Power, United Illuminating, Yankee Gas and cable television companies. PURA presided over the merger of Hartford-based Northeast Utilities with Boston-based NStar.
Caron most recently served as a lobbyist for business development firm Camilliere, Cloud & Kennedy. Before his time at Pfizer, Caron served in the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1991-2009 as the assistant minority leader. He worked extensively with the Energy & Technology Committee.
Until Caron can be confirmed by the General Assembly in its next session, Caron will serve as an interim appointee with PURA Chairman Arthur House and Vice Chairman Jack Betkoski.
