A former church in midtown Hartford bought by the state two years ago as a public performing hall and for storage — plus briefly as a homeless shelter — is being renamed Rell Hall in honor of outgoing Gov. M. Jodi Rell, authorities say.
State Public Works Commissioner Raeanne Curtis said Rell encouraged the $2.3 million purchase of former Second Baptist Church of Christ building at 129 Lafayette St.
The Georgian-style building is within yards of the State Library and Supreme Court buildings, and a block-and-a-half from the Bushnell Theater.
The building is undergoing a $4 million renovation.
