Ex-EPA’s McCarthy named to CT Green Bank board

Gina McCarthy, ex-administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, will serve as a member of the Connecticut Green Bank’s board of directors.

McCarthy most recently served as EPA administrator under President Barack Obama. Previously, she served as commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (now known as the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection) under Governor M. Jodi Rell.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, who made the appointment public Monday afternoon, said McCarthy will be “a fantastic advocate” for environmental causes that include reducing energy burdens on consumers, improving public health and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The Connecticut Green Bank is a quasi-public authority created through legislation Malloy signed in 2011. Its mission is to speed up deployment of clean energy using limited public dollars to attract private capital investment in clean energy products.

McCarthy received a bachelor’s degree in social anthropology from the University of Massachusetts at Boston and a joint master’s in environmental health engineering and planning and policy from Tufts University.
