Ex-CT insurance commish Mike dead at 64

Acting Connecticut Insurance Commissioner Barbara C. Spear announced Thursday the death of former Insurance Commissioner Joseph Mike. He was 64.

Mike died Tuesday at his Bristol home.

He became the state’s youngest insurance commissioner when he was appointed at the age of 30 by Gov. Ella Grasso, Spear said. He served for nearly a decade.

“His former colleagues in the department have very fond memories of Commissioner Mike,” Spear said. “He will always be remembered as a kind and thoughtful man who cared deeply about the people around him.”
