Ex-Bush cabinet official joins UTC board

Former Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez is joining the 14-member board of United Technologies Corp. as an independent director, effective March 11.

Gutierrez, 55, served most recently as commerce secretary under the Bush Administration from 2005 to January.  Before joining the Bush cabinet, Gutierrez spent 30 years with Kellogg Co., serving as chairman and CEO from 2000 to 2005.

“Carlos Gutierrez has great experience and accomplishments internationally both through his long tenure at Kellogg and as our nation’s Secretary of Commerce,” UTC Chairman George David said in a statement today.

Gutierrez has served on the boards of Colgate- Palmolive Co. and the Grocery Manufacturers of America and as co-trustee of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation Trust.
