The owner of the bankrupt Bernie’s TV and appliance chain plans to open a new store under the Bernie’s name, according to a published report.
Milton Rosenberg plans to open Bernie’s Home Central in a former Bernie’s location in Manchester on June 1, The Hartford Courant reports on its Web site.
Rosenberg said he will have about 20 workers, some of whom could be former Bernie’s employees.
Rosenberg received approval Monday from U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Hartford to buy the Bernie’s name out of bankruptcy court for $150,000 from Citizens Bank, the largest secured lender.
The electronics, appliance and bedding chain filed for bankruptcy protection in January and immediately closed its 15 stores, including nine in Connecticut.
