Berlin electric utility Eversource Energy has asked regulators to approve its sale of three acres of land in Wethersfield for $275,000 to the Capital Region Education Council, which wants to build a recreation area next to a magnet school.
The Public Utilities Regulatory Authority must sign off on the deal before Eversource and CREC can pull the trigger. PURA can approve the deal without a hearing.
CREC plans on using the three acres at 178 Cumberland Ave. in Wethersfield as a recreation area for The Discovery Academy magnet school expected to open in September. The property also would be open to use by Wethersfield residents.
The assessed land value of the property is $233,100, according to the Wethersfield Tax Assessor, and has annual taxes of $8,564. The $275,000 purchase price is the average of two appraisals Eversource and CREC received for the property.
