Eversource said it will spend $80 million this year trimming trees around more than 4,000 miles of overhead electric lines in Connecticut.
The utility, which invested over $75 million in 2017, said the investment will help improve reliability for customers across the state by preventing power outages during severe storms.
Sean Redding, manager of vegetation management at Eversource, said year-round trimming and tree removal continues to be a crucial project as droughts in recent years have weakened trees in every corner of the state.
Eversource said the overhead trimming will be performed in 121 communities, with the most extensive work in Woodstock along 153 miles, along 114 miles in Haddam and 110 miles in Danbury.
The utility will notify customers in advance if trimming is needed on their property.
