Eversource-linked $1.6B transmission project denied in N.H.

A New Hampshire regulatory board has thrown the future of the Eversource/Hydro-Quebec $1.6 billion “Northern Pass” transmission project into uncertainty.

Eversource notified investors Thursday that the New Hampshire Site Evaluation Committee voted to deny its application for the 192-mile project, which is designed to carry hydroelectricity from Canada into New England.

The project has faced local opposition in New Hampshire for years, including concerns about large transmission infrastructure spoiling scenic views.

“Eversource intends to seek reconsideration of the SEC’s decision and to review all options for moving this critical clean energy project forward,” the company said in a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing.
