Even in an off year, Yale still well endowed

Nine of Connecticut’s 12 largest public- and private-college endowments suffered declining values in 2012, along with most other North American four-year schools, a new study shows.

Middletown’s Wesleyan University, Hartford’s Trinity College and Fairfield’s’ Sacred Heart University were the only Connecticut college endowments to gain in value in the 2012 National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO)-Commonfund Study of Endowments. Commonfund Institute is based in Wilton.

In all, 829 four-year schools in the U.S. and Canada responded to the NACUBO-Commonfund study.

Yale topped all the state’s colleges who responded to the study, despite ending fiscal 2012 with an endowment valued at $19.35 billion, down 0.1 percent from $19.37 billion in fiscal 2011, the survey found.
