A developer is proposing to build an electric vehicle charging station and café on a vacant site in Enfield.
Global Development has proposed an EV charging station and café on a 0.55-acre lot at 1561 King St., in Enfield.
The project, which will be discussed during a Planning and Zoning Commission meeting scheduled for Thursday evening, would include 21 charging stations, with some being sheltered by a solar carport.
The development also includes a support building housing a café and restrooms.
“Our intention is to complete a much-needed alternative energy source for EV travelers with the comforts of a lounging area during their wait,” the developer said in its project application.
Global Development said it will be developing the project for SunEV, a Connecticut-based provider of off-the-grid rapid EV charging stations. The owner of SunEV, Bob Patrick, is the project applicant.
The project will require town and state approvals and the installation of erosion controls. Depending on the timing of weather approvals and weather conditions, the project could take a year to complete, according to the application.
The property at 1561 King St. is currently owned by the Alaimo Family LLC, which is controlled by Esther Alaimo.
