Normec, a European provider of testing, inspection and compliance services, announced Wednesday its entry into the U.S. market through the acquisition of three specialized companies, including one in Connecticut.
The Amsterdam-based company acquired NorthEast BioAnalytical Laboratories LLC — a specialized bioanalytical laboratory in Hamden — along with MS Bio in Champaign, Illinois, and MJ Reider in Philadelphia.
NorthEast BioLab provides bioanalytical services across all stages of drug development from discovery to clinical trials. Its clients include biotech firms, pharmaceutical companies, research institutions and contract research organizations.
NorthEast BioLab was founded in 2003 and employs about 27 people. It is located at 35 Worth Ave., in Hamden.
Normec, which reached a valuation exceeding $2.2 billion in 2024, has completed more than 85 acquisitions since its founding in 2016. The company employs 6,000 people across 160 locations in more than six countries.
"Today's announcement marks a pivotal moment in Normec's journey and more than doubles our addressable market," said Joep Bruins, Normec's CEO.
The U.S. represents the world's largest market for testing and compliance services, which remains highly fragmented and presents opportunities for further consolidation, according to the company.
The company is backed by Astorg, a European private equity firm that has been Normec's majority shareholder since 2020.
