An Albania-born grocer plans to open the fifth location of his Euro Grocery chain — and fourth in Connecticut.
Jamm Real Estate LLC, controlled by Dritan Lionini, expects to open the 7,500-square-foot Euro Grocery store at 16 Stony Hill Road in Bethel within a month, following approval from the town’s Planning and Zoning Commission.
The store will sell prepackaged foods imported from Mediterranean countries, including Greece, Italy and the Balkans, Lionini said.
The Bethel location follows earlier openings in Rocky Hill (2017), Waterbury (2020), Orange (2021) and a Massachusetts location in 2024.
Lionini, 40, who moved to the U.S. about 13 years ago, said the expansion is driven by demand from ethnic communities.
“There’s a huge ethnic community where we see potential,” he said.
He said he aims to grow the chain to 25 locations nationwide and is scouting additional sites, including in Stamford and Massachusetts.
“We’re looking everywhere,” he said.
