Ethan Allen Interiors Inc. posted higher sales and profits for the fiscal second quarter as most consumers shook off the after-effects of storm Sandy and flocked to the Danbury home-furnishings maker’s retail showrooms.
For three months ended Dec. 31, Ethan Allen netted $11.4 million, or 39 cents a diluted share, before special items, up from $8.6 million, or 30 cents a share, netted the same period a year ago.
Second-quarter sales climbed 4.4 percent to $191.3 million vs. $183.3 million a year earlier.
Chairman and CEO Farooq Kathwari said the October storm negatively impacted traffic at 28 of its showrooms and eight independent retailers to the tune of 2 cents to 3 cents a share but Ethan Allen didn’t reflect that in earnings.
