Danbury furniture company Ethan Allen Interiors has won an environmental excellence award for its efforts to boost recycling of sawdust, chips and wood scrap in Vermont, officials said.
Ethan Allen received the 2013 Vermont Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence during a recent award ceremony at the University of Vermont Davis Center.
Ethan Allen’s Vermont facilities have made efforts to increase their recycling of sawdust, chips, and wood scrap. The facilities have also been burning wood chips and sawdust to provide steam energy in hopes of making their operation oil-free by the end of 2013.
“All of our facilities, including those in northeastern Vermont, are dedicated to making best use of our resources and protecting the safety and health of our employees and their communities,” said Farooq Kathwari Ethan Allen chairman, president and chief executive officer.
