Danbury home furnishings retailer Ethan Allen Inc. plans to use its furniture manufacturing operations to custom build pieces to order.
Products will be made individually, rather than in large production runs once the conversion is complete in 12 months.
Ethan Allen in recent years has been turning out custom-made dining and bedroom sets and other pieces, said Chairman, President and CEO Farooq Kathwari.
“Our custom capability is one of our strongest assets and a strong point of differentiation,” Kathwari said.
Ethan Allen has six furniture plants and about 300 retail design centers in the U.S. and abroad.
