The United States’ 2-1 victory over Ghana in the American’s opening match in the World Cup set the record for the highest rated soccer match for Bristol sports programmer ESPN.
ESPN scored 11.1 million viewers and a 6.3 rating for the match on Monday, according to Nielsen.
It was the most-viewed telecast for ESPN since the Jan. 6 BCS National Championship college football game that had 25.6 million viewers.
The markets most tuning into the event were Washington, D.C., New York, Hartford-New Haven, and Boston.
