The Walt Disney Co., parent of Bristol sports programmer ESPN, pledged Thursday to help rebuild schools in northwest China’s Qinghai province damaged in Wednesday’s powerful series of earthquakes.
Disney said it will contribute Rmb 1 million, or about $146,400, to the China Youth Development Foundation to rebuild schools in the western province.
Disney built temporary schools and aided with building permanent facilities following the 2008 quake in Sichuan and Gansu provinces.
China is an important market for Disney, which has 600 employees there and is building a theme park in Shanghai. ESPN also has sports broadcast operations in that country.
