EPA to review toxins at Gallup’s Quarry in Plainfield

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will plans to review contaminants at Gallup’s Quarry in Plainfield to determine if EPA needs to modify the remediation plan for the Superfund site.

EPA’s five-year review of the remedy plan for Gallup’s Quarry said changes in federal and state cleanup standards require the long-term monitoring of the site to include groundwater sampling for arsenic and dioxane.

Gallup’s Quarry is a 29-acre site of illegal industrial waste disposal during 1977 that was shut down in 1978 by the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection. As part of the cleanup of the site, EPA monitors soils, surface water, groundwater, and institutional controls.

Other than needing to modify the plan for arsenic and dioxane monitoring, EPA’s review of the site found the remedy to be protective for exposure to contaminants.
