EPA honors The Hartford for climate leadership

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Tuesday honored The Hartford Financial Services Group with a Climate Leadership Award, one of the 16 awardees nationally.

Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch also won the leadership award, given to individuals and organizations investing in renewable energy and preparing for the impacts of climate change.

Specifically, the Hartford received the Excellence in Greenhouse Gas Management award for setting an absolute greenhouse gas reduction goal of 20 percent between 2013 and 2018, its third iteration of these goals originally scheduled for 2010. The Hartford also won this EPA award last year.

Finch received the Individual Leadership Award for his energy initiatives such as a fuel cell and solar energy park, and for his other sustainability efforts, such as increased community recycling. Finch is co-chair of the U.S. Conference of Mayors Energy Independence and Climate Change Task Force.
