The State of Connecticut was one of only three states honored Tuesday by the Environmental Protection Agency as one of the nation’s top 50 Green Power Partners.
The state government receives 17 percent of its electricity from renewable resources such as wind, solar, and hydro, equivalent to taking 13,000 carbon dioxide emitting vehicle off the road every year. Connecticut ranked 36 of the 50 companies and governments on the list.
ING, which has major operations in Windsor but is based in The Netherlands, ranked 45 on the list. California-based Intel Corporations is No. 1, and the state government is Pennsylvania at No. 8.
Connecticut wants to have 20 percent of its energy supplied by renewable resources by 2020, part of Gov. M. Jodi Rell’s vision for a cleaner, greener state.
“We are well on track to achieve the goal of obtaining 20 percent of the electricity used by the state of Connecticut from renewable sources by 2020,” Rell said in a statement. “This demonstrates and validates Connecticut’s leadership on energy and climate issues.”
