State environmental police said they arrested a hunter on Wednesday – opening day of turkey hunting season – in Bloomfield for not having a permit and baiting birds with corn.
EnCon, the law enforcement division of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, allege Mark Zanawich was hunting turkey from a hunting blind on land owned by Bloomfield Game Club.
Zanawich was baiting birds with cracked corn, which is prohibited, police allege.
He is due in court May 9, where he will face a charge of negligent hunting in the fourth degree and illegal turkey hunting with the use of artificial bait, DEEP said.
