The Enfield Cinemark movie theater permanently closed last week.
Town officials on Monday said the Cinemark Enfield Square 12 was closed after its last showings on Thursday.
The closure was an expected move, town officials said.Â
Cinemark has operated in the Enfield Square Mall since 1998, but movie theaters struggled with attendance in recent years, especially after shut downs during the pandemic.
Cinemark USA Inc. closed its four Connecticut locations – in Milford, North Haven, Enfield and Manchester – in April 2020, along with nearly 340 other locations throughout the US. Nearly all reopened by 2021 as restrictions were lifted.
Recent movie listings for the Enfield cinema included older films such as Love Actually 20th Anniversary, the Polar Express and Waitress.
Cinemark officials could not be reached for comment. The company, founded in 1984, reported 2.45 billion in revenue in 2022.

Town officials said they do not know the plans for the now-vacant space.
The Enfield Square Mall has also seen high store vacancy rates as town officials have said they are frustrated with the current ownership and are hoping for a sale.
