Enfield approves development of two office buildings

A retired Enfield dentist has received town approval to build a pair of two-story medical or professional office buildings on Hazard Avenue.

George Karanian, founder of Whole Family Dental on Hazard Avenue, received a special permit last week from the town’s Planning and Zoning Commission to construct the office space and associated parking lots on vacant land a mile from his former business at 125 and 135 Hazard Ave.

Karanian acquired the land for an undisclosed amount in May 2017, land records show.

It’s not exactly clear how many offices the buildings, spanning over 19,842 square feet and 15,168 square feet, respectively, will comprise. Those details could be fleshed out in the months ahead as Karanian seeks a buyer for the approved development, planning officials say.

A construction timeline was not discussed at last week’s planning meeting and Karanian could not be reached for immediate comment Monday.

According to drafted plans, which are still subject to change, the complex will include a total of 193 parking spaces split between the two buildings.

The buildings would be constructed on three acres of the total 42-acre property.

If used for medical office space, the development would join other healthcare focused outfits within a half-mile on Hazard Avenue including Clinical Laboratory Partners, Quest Diagnostics and Women’s Health CT S.H.E. Medical Associates.

Karanian founded Whole Family Dental, originally known as Karanian Dental, in 1959. He retired after a 53-year career in 2013, according to the company’s website.
