The new Energize Connecticut initiative has launched a new communities program designed to incentivize municipalities and their residents to pursue clean and efficient energy.
The initiative comes from cooperation between the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund and the Clean Energy Finance & Investment Authority, seeking to have businesses and residents use less energy while supporting renewable power.
Energize Connecticut on Tuesday launched a new version of its Clean Energy Communities program asking cities and towns across the state to pledge to reduce their municipal building energy consumption by 20 percent by 2018 and purchase 20 percent of their electrical needs from clean sources by 2018.
Ten communities signed on thus far: Bridgeport, Bristol, Easton, Fairfield, Hamden, North Haven, Plainville, Stafford, Trumbull and Woodbridge.
The program awards points to communities whenever residents or businesses install a clean energy system, enroll in the CTCleanEnergyOptions program, or sign up for a home energy assessment. Those points can be redeemed for solar electric systems installed at municipal facilities.
