Employers hail Kaiser, UnitedHealthcare

Kaiser Permanente  got the highest employer satisfaction rating among fully insured health plans in the 2011 annual Employer Health Insurance Plan Study by J.D. Power and Associates. UnitedHealthcare ranked highest among self-insured plans, The Sacramento Business Journal reports.

The study measures five key factors that affect employer satisfaction with carriers: employee plan service experience; account servicing; product offering and benefit design; problem resolution, cost and cost management.

Based on a 1,000 point scale, Kaiser got 714 points. Cigna was second among fully insured plans, with 687, followed by Aetna and UnitedHealthcare at 666; Humana, at 661 and WellPoint/Anthem Blue Cross at 659.

UnitedHealthcare topped the group of self-insured plans, with a score of 665 out of 1,000. Cigna was second, with 641, followed by WellPoint/Anthem Blue Cross at 635 and Aetna at 631.

The ranking is based on responses from 7,024 employers in March and April 2011. There are quotas to assure adequate distribution of small, medium and large companies.
