Emcor workers donning pink hard hats

Thousands of workers in the U.S. and Great Britain for Norwalk mechanical and constructions services firm Emcor Group Inc., including a group in Vernon, are donning pink hard hats to support breast cancer awareness.

Emcor CEO Frank MacInnis said the company is “challenging the ‘macho’ image of the construction industry” to wear pink to support colleagues, family, friends who may be affected by disease as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

In Vernon, 164 employees of Emcor Services New England Mechanical will wear pink hard hats during the company’s annual golf tournament in Bloomfield on Saturday. Among the participants will be Emcor-New England administrative manager Johan Lavery, who is a breast cancer survivor.

Emcor said tournament proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.
