Imperial Electronic Assembly, a contract electronics manufacturer founded in Danbury nearly four decades ago, will move its headquarters back to the city and build a new 120,000-square-foot facility off Riverview Drive, Mayor Roberto L. Alves announced.
The project represents an investment of more than $23 million in the city’s manufacturing sector, according to the mayor’s office.
The company, which employs about 125 workers, expects to add 40 to 50 jobs once the relocation is complete, with the potential for another 50 positions as operations expand.
Imperial Electronic Assembly was founded in Danbury in 1988 by Anthony Conte Sr. The company moved to a 45,000-square-foot facility at 1000 Federal Road in Brookfield in 2001, where it has operated since. The planned Danbury building would nearly triple its current footprint.
The privately held, family-run company provides printed circuit board assembly, cable and harness manufacturing, and electro-mechanical assembly services for customers in industries including medical devices, defense, energy, telecommunications and security.
“We started this company right here in Danbury nearly four decades ago,” said Conte, the company’s CEO. “It’s incredibly meaningful for our family to bring our business back to the city where it all began. Danbury has always been home to us, and we’re excited to grow here again.”
Conte and his sons, Mike Conte and Anthony Conte Jr., both Danbury residents, worked with the city to facilitate the relocation and development of the new facility, according to the announcement.
