Electricity disclosure legislation moves forward

The state Senate voted unanimously Tuesday to approve legislation that would require the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority to study the disclosure of contract terms by third-party electricity suppliers.

The bill would also require PURA to determine the feasibility of redesigning the state website that provides informational summaries of each supplier.

PURA is already examining the matter. The legislative action follows PURA’s recent approval of tighter rules for suppliers, which prohibit them from offering daily or weekly variable rates to homeowners and small businesses, and increase disclosure and record-keeping requirements.

Correction: The original version of this story gave an incorrect vote tally. The vote was a unanimous 36-0.
