PURA said it has conditionally approved electric rate decreases for customers of Eversource Energy and United Illuminating beginning May 1.
The state Public Utilities Regulatory Authority announced Wednesday it has conditionally approved electric rate decreases for customers of Eversource Energy and United Illuminating beginning May 1.
The changes, which run through April 30, 2027, were approved in interim decisions as part of the utilities’ annual rate reset process, which adjusts certain charges based on prior-year costs, according to PURA.
Residential customers are expected to see average monthly bill decreases of about $30 for Eversource and $34 for UI.
Regulators said the reductions are largely driven by lower public benefits charges, particularly those tied to nuclear energy contracts, as well as declining costs for hardship programs, including uncollectible bills and arrearage forgiveness.
Because the rulings are interim, the rates remain subject to further review and could be adjusted later this year following a more detailed examination of utility costs and revenues, PURA said.
