Electric Boat has reached a tentative agreement with its drafter’s union that has averted a threatened strike that was due to start at midnight Sunday.
The Marine Draftsmen’s Association will now present the deal to their members at the Groton shipyard and hold a ratification vote.
The company, a division of General Dynamics, says the package “recognizes the essential role of the MDA members in the production of submarines for the U.S. Navy.”
The deal provides wage increases totaling 30.6% over the life of the proposed five-year contract.Â
On social media Sunday night, the union also told members the contract proposal offers additional opportunities for promotion and supplemental retirement security for workers who are not eligible for pensions.
“We want to be clear: while we did not win everything. The ‘Big Three’ demands of COLA, profit share, and pensions for all remain challenges for the future,” the bargaining committee said.
Electric Boat issued a statement praising the deal.
“We commend the bargaining committees for the tremendous effort and their commitment to excellence in support of our shared critical mission during a time of need for our country,” the statement said.
A date has not yet been announced for the ratification vote.
